Maine-NH Connections Study to show Bridge Comparisons
On Thursday, May 6 from 6-8 pm at the Portsmouth City Council Chambers, the public will have the opportunity to see the initial cross-section designs for the proposed rehabilitation or replacement options for the Memorial Bridge and the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge. Combining all possible options still under consideration for the two bridges, there are nine alternatives remaining.
While no decision has yet been made as to whether - or when - the bridges will be rehabilitated or replaced, this meeting will give the public its first look on how the final options compare to each other based on the categories of Structural Improvement, Mobility, Accessibility, Cost, Historic, Natural Environment, Physical Environment, Regulatory and Use of Section 4(f) Resources. (Section 4(f) resources include publicly owned land in a public park, recreation area, or wildlife and waterfowl refuge of national state, or local significance, or any land from a historic site of national, state, or local significance.)
An open house from 5-6 p.m. will give the public the opportunity to closely examine the cross-section designs, and from 6-8 p.m. each design will be presented and discussed individually so the public can understand and comment on how each alternative was rated.
