The Waterline
KITTERY, ME – The end of the boating season is rapidly approaching. Mornings are getting cool and things are little quieter at the Cove. Many boaters are going to see the foliage, pick apples and drink cider instead of boating on the weekends. The lobstermen of course keep on hauling and setting gear, they won’t be done for awhile yet, until the days are even shorter and cooler.
I would like to thank all the Kittery boaters for helping to make this a productive and fulfilling first season for me as your Harbormaster. We accomplished some things this year. The waitlist was thoroughly updated and we have assigned many new moorings to boaters on the list. Over the course of the season I received many great suggestions to help improve the boating facilities in Kittery. I very much appreciate your input, so keep it up.
On tap for this Fall is the mooring location program. The goal is to have a Latitude and Longitude for all the moorings in Kittery waters before Christmas. This information will then be loaded into a computer program that will allow better service and record keeping of all the moorings in the community.
The floats will be coming out around the middle of October. Please remember to have your dinghy off the floats before Oct. 15th. All boaters who keep a dinghy at Pepperell Cove should remember to keep their dinghies bailed out. Also remember that a 10’ painter is required for your dinghy. Non-compliance may mean the removal and storage of your dinghy with related storage fees.
Have a peaceful off season. I look forward to hearing from all you mooring holders after the first of the year.
