FUEL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR KITTERY RESIDENTS
KITTERY, MAINE - The Town of Kittery, in conjunction with area ministers, the Estes and Davis Oil companies and York County Community Action Corp., and other social service providers announce the formation of a safety net heating fuel oil program for Kittery citizens. The program, in its second year, is geared toward low-income families and those individuals who are eligible for fuel assistance and/or who find themselves in need of heating fuel and cannot afford it during the 2007-2008 winter heating season.
This group has created a fund called “Fuel and More” which will be used in conjunction with other town, State and Federal programs and will be administered through the town’s General Assistance program. The group has targeted $10,000 to be raised for this winter. Donations can be made to this account at the following address: “Fuel & More” c/o General Assistance Administrator, Kittery Municipal Office, 200 Rogers Road, Kittery, ME 03904, and are tax deductible. In addition to traditional fundraising methods, the Fuel and More Program is developing innovative ways to fundraise for this important cause. One such concept is with internet searches on a Search Engine called GoodSearch <http://www.goodsearch.com/>, powered by Yahoo. The Fuel and More Program has registered with
GoodSearch under the name of the Town of Kittery. By using that search engine, one cent per search is contributed to Fuel and More which can add up over time. Please consider assisting us in providing the safety net to those in need of heating assistance this winter and throughout the year. The Fuel and More Program hopes to expand into other areas of assistance to those citizens in need in our community. By having a central social services committee, greater efficiency can be accomplished in providing limited resources to those in need.
